Just three months before her murder, Shanann Watts called her husband \u201cmy rock\u201d in a Facebook post. But what looked like a perfect family soon unraveled into one of the most chilling crimes in recent history \u2013 and Netflix\u2019s\u00a0American Murder<\/em>\u00a0left out key details that reveal even more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On May 5, 2018,\u00a0Shanann Watts<\/a>\u00a0posted a\u00a0Facebook<\/a>\u00a0photo showing her and Chris Watts smiling warmly as they leaned into each other, captioned with the now-haunting<\/a>\u00a0words: \u201cI love this man! He\u2019s my ROCK!\u201d<\/p>\n

Friends flooded the comments with praise: \u201cHe is amazing! So glad you two found each other,\u201d and \u201cPower couple.\u201d<\/p>\n

But months later, one comment stood out: \u201cHow can he be her rock in May 2018 and\u00a0kill\u00a0<\/a>her and her lovely three children in August 2018?\u201d<\/p>\n

Kills family<\/h2>\n

On Aug.13, 2018, Shanann, 34 and 15 weeks pregnant, was reported missing from her home in Frederick, Colorado, along with her daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste \u201cCeCe,\u201d 3. Days later, investigators discovered Shanann\u2019s body in a shallow grave and the girls\u2019 remains in oil tanks on property owned by Chris\u2019s employer, Anadarko Petroleum.<\/p>\n

Netflix\u2019s 2020 documentary\u00a0American Murder: The Family Next Door\u00a0<\/em>details the case but left out several disturbing facts.<\/p>\n

\u2018Evil\u2019 mother-in-law<\/h2>\n

Shanann\u2019s tensions with Chris\u2019s parents were not explored in the documentary, despite playing a significant role in the family dynamic. According to\u00a09News<\/a>, Chris\u2019 mother, Cindy Watts, said of the couple\u2019s 2012 wedding: \u201cWe didn\u2019t attend because Shanann and I just couldn\u2019t get along. I didn\u2019t like the way she treated him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The situation reportedly escalated in summer 2018.<\/p>\n

While Shanann and the children were visiting family in North Carolina, she accused Cindy of putting Celeste in danger by serving ice cream with peanut chips \u2013 despite her daughter\u2019s severe nut allergy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese kids are my world and I have to protect them from the evil of the world. I shouldn\u2019t have to protect them from evil family. She\u2019s evil and willing to risk your daughter\u2019s life just to get under my skin,\u201d Shanann wrote in a furious Aug. 4 message to Chris, according to the\u00a0Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The fallout led to Chris\u2019s parents being blocked on social media and skipping Celeste\u2019s birthday party.<\/p>\n

More than an affair<\/h2>\n

While the Netflix documentary mentioned Chris was having an affair, it downplayed the depth of his relationship with co-worker Nichol Kessinger.
