63-Year-Old Singer ✨💖Stuns America’s Got Talent Judges by Performing Both Sides of a Duet — With One Incredible Costume

Milwaukee-born Adaline Bates faces the judges again on 'America's Got Talent'

When 63-year-old Adeline Bates auditioned for America’s Got Talent, she had a surprising plan that would leave the judges laughing, applauding and thoroughly entertained. Her performance of Nat King Cole’s classic “Unforgettable” was unlike an ordinary singing audition because Adeline intended to perform both the male and female parts of the duet herself.

At first, however, the audience had no idea what she had in mind.

Adeline initially appeared on stage wearing neat, conservative clothing. When she announced that she needed more time to get ready, the unexpected request sparked curiosity. Would she be changing into a more formal outfit, or had she forgotten something important?

The answer became clear when she returned in a striking costume designed to represent both a man and a woman. The unusual split outfit, complete with contrasting appearances, was central to the creative act she was about to deliver.

One Singer, Two Completely Different Voices

Adeline began by turning the male side of her costume toward the audience, adopting a masculine singing voice for the first part of “Unforgettable.”

As the judges realized what she was doing, their reactions quickly shifted from curiosity to amusement and surprise.

“She’s going to do both parts? Oh my God!” judge Julianne Hough exclaimed as the concept became clear.

When it was time for the female part, Adeline turned around to reveal the feminine side of her outfit, complete with a different look and makeup. She then switched to a feminine singing voice, creating the impression that two performers were taking turns in the duet.

The transitions were the heart of the act. By changing her position and voice, Adeline brought both characters to life without needing a second singer.

Her ability to move between the two roles made the performance entertaining, while the familiar melody gave the audience a chance to appreciate the unusual arrangement.

A Confidence Boost on the America’s Got Talent Stage

What made the audition even more memorable was Adeline’s admission that she had struggled with the confidence to perform on stage. Despite those nerves, she embraced an unconventional idea and delivered an act that entertained the judges.

Gabrielle Union praised her willingness to step into the spotlight, saying, “At 63, she came out on this stage and did not one but two performances. I love that this is what your ‘me-time’ looks like.”

The comment captured what made Adeline’s audition appealing: she was not simply showcasing her singing ability but also having fun with a creative performance that allowed her personality to shine.

Although split costumes and one-person duets are not new to the world of entertainment, pulling off both convincingly requires coordination, timing and the confidence to commit to the concept. Adeline brought all of those elements together in an audition that stood out for its originality and humour.

Her performance was a reminder that stepping outside one’s comfort zone can lead to unexpected moments of joy — and that age need not be a barrier to trying something bold.

Watch Adeline Bates perform both sides of “Unforgettable” and see how one singer turned a classic duet into a memorable America’s Got Talent audition.
